MBABANE – The novel coronavirus pandemic is not only claiming thousands of lives on a daily basis but it has also stalled dream football career moves.
Royal Leopard striker Phumzile Dlamini is the latest star who has seen her dream move to Denmark being put on hold due to COVID-19, which has thrown many top sporting events into disarray.

An informed source close to the deal, told the Times Sports Desk that the Danish side (name deliberately withheld as negotiations are still ongoing) were represented by an agent who came into the country on February 23 to watch the player in action during a league match played under the auspices of the Women Football Association (WFA).

promised

“The agent was impressed with her performance and promised to broker a deal for her in Denmark after having finalised talks with her team which had a representative during the meeting held at a hotel in Ezulwini,” the source said.

The gifted Leopard player was supposed to have left last month to join the Danish side which would have made her the first female international from Eswatini.
The facilitator of the deal, the Times Sports Desk has reliably gathered, is former FIFA accredited agent and now pastor at God’s Glory Ministry Church in Sidwashini, Victor McDonald. McDonald also orchestrated the move for Manzini Wanderers starlet, Leon Manyisa, to Armenia and two other youngsters, Denver Sundowns goalkeeper Lwethu Simelane and Vovovo FC’s Mcolisi Tsabedze.

Reached for comment, McDonald confirmed that the move for the Leopard starlet had been stalled by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I am not involved per se because there is an agent who is dealing with the issue, but it is a good team and they have an academy facility for both girls and boys. I am only helping for free,” he said.

Royal Leopard ladies team vice manager, Xolile Dlamini, reluctantly confirmed the interest from the Danish side on their player, Phumzile.
“We spoke to the agent who came here but nothing has been finalised and we have not even discussed with the relevant authorities here. Yes, they showed interest in her,” she said briefly.
